Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, simply called the Cath Lab, is a specialized lab with highly efficient tools for processing photographs of coronary arteries or other vascular vessels. The photograph is displayed on the screen and recorded as a digital television tape. It can be rotated in all directions for a thorough examination, allowing the physician to get images from all angles as needed quickly and clearly.

The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory of Vichaivej International Hospital Nongkhaem is open 24 hours and is considered one of the most efficient technologies with expertise from a team of specialized medical professionals with experience along with medical equipment for diagnosis and analysis of heart disease that meets standards. The operation is available 24 hours a day as follows:

  • Cardiac Catheterization & Angiography
  • Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Intervention
  • Permanent Pacemaker
  • Automated Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (AICD)
  • Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)

Cath Lab Services

  • The cardiac catheterization laboratory or the Cath lab allows the doctor to examine the abnormal location and the severity of coronary artery disease, the work of the cardiac muscle, contraction, myocardial infarction, and the pressure measurement in the heart chambers at various locations, including abnormalities of the heart valves and the contraction of the cardiac muscle. If abnormalities are found, the doctor will conduct balloon angioplasty and percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention, and closure of the septal defect by cardiac catheterization.
  • The Cath lab allows the doctor to diagnose and treat cerebrovascular conditions, such as embolic or stroke which will be examined and treated by injecting contrast media into the cerebral artery to examine abnormalities at various points. This test gives more accurate results than an X-ray vascular examination.

When do you need Cath lab?

When coronary heart disease occurs due to insufficient blood supply to the heart, the patient will feel tightness or pain in the chest for more than 5 minutes and feel easily tired while the Cath lab examination will be the last step for people with heart disease since there is a risk of sudden death from heart disease itself.

Cath lab examination is an accurate cardiac catheterization with high efficiency. People at risk of heart disease or those who suffer from heart disease and use incurable medications or other methods of treatment will be included in the Cath lab to plan a more accurate treatment in the future.
